Fran Ilich is a cyberpunk, media-artist, writer and CEO of the cooperative media conglomerate Diego de la Vega. He is studying an M.A. in Media art histories at Donau-Universität Krems, in Austria, with a scholarship of Leonardo Foundation. He also studied the b.a. in Latin american studies at Alliant International University. He's author of the novels Metro-Pop (Ediciones SM, México 1997, awarded an honorary mention at II Concurso de Novela para Jóvenes Lectores 1993 and I Premio de Literatura de Literatura Juvenil Gran Angular 1996 of Ediciones SM and Dirección General de Publicaciones del Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, it was also published by Programa Nacional de Lectura de la Secretaría de Educación Pública) and Tekno Guerrilla (Editorial Verbigracia, Bilbao 2007). He was screenplayer of Interacción (Discovery Channel), editor @ large of Sputnik Cultura Digital magazine, researcher at Centro Multimedia at Centro Nacional de las Artes of México. He's author of A Radio-tale of 2 walls, a radio-drama produced by Backyard Radio Berlin. He participated in Berlinale Talent Campus, Transmediale, ARCO, Walker Art Center, MEIAC, Big Torino, Berlin Beta, Bananaram, Streaming Cinema festival, Salón Internacional de Arte Digital de La Habana, 56k Bastard Channel of Pro Helvetia, Ars Electronica. Another communication, another culture at Festival Mundial de la Digna Rabia del Ejercito Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (by personal invitation of Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos), Gamerz Festival (Vasarely Foundation, Aix-en-Provence), Psychoeconomy Corporate Summit 2010 in Madrid Abierto at Matadero Madrid, Cultura Pensamento - Juventude e Ativismo in Belo Horizonte (organized by Ministerio da Cultura de Brasil and ONG Contato), 3er Festival Internacional de Cine y Video Alternativo y Comunitario Ojo al Sancocho (Ciudad Bolivar, Bogotá), Tedx (San Miguel de Allende), as well as X Encuentro Nacional de Escritores de Tierra Adentro (Colima y Manzanillo, México), Bienal Internacional de Arte Contemporaneo 2010 (Universidad de Los Andes, Mérida, Venezuela). He directed 2 seminars of narrative media for the Universidad Internacional de Andalucía in Sevilla, and was invited as a professor to the UNESCO postgraduate degree on digital art. He's the author of the forthcoming novel Circa '94, recipient of the binational award for novels, "Frontera de Palabras / Border of Words" (Premio Binacional de Novela Joven 2010 Frontera de Palabras, Programa Cultural Tierra Adentro del Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, Centro Cultural Tijuana and Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores) and of Otra narrativa es posible (2005), a forthcoming essay written with a grant from Centro Multimedia del Centro Nacional de las Artes of México. He also was coordinator of the IV Festival Latino de Cine Estudiantil (later known as the San Diego Latino Film Festival). He has been a recipient of two "Young Creators" grants from FONCA (Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes), in 2005 for Ficción: html para contar historias de vidas online (in the category of multimedia), and in 2010 for Proyecto de ficción para una revolución escrita en html (in the category of literature, specialty of creative essay). He directed festivals like Cinemátik 1.0 (1st Cyberculture festival in Latin America), <net.net.net.mx> (with Natalie Bookchin, sponsored by MOCA and CalArts), & Borderhack. He was a co-organizer of Make World (Munich) and curator of the electronic music programme at the 2nd Festival Diego Rivera & Feria de las Disqueras Independientes. Since 2001 he produces Modem Radio (that has been transmitted thru Radio Universidad, Reboot FM, and is now podcasted on Radio Latina AM).
